Goods Train service between Lumding and Badarpur sector has been resumed under elaborate security arrangement. The Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Mr. K. Riachho told our Corr. that the trial run of the goods train has safely arrived in Badarpur yesterday with 15 wagons laden with rice for Mizoram and Tripura. The wagons bound for Mizoram are expected to arrive in Bairabi Rail station today. Meanwhile 19 Trucks from Guwahati and 14 more from Ramnagar are proceeding to Mizoram today. Meanwhile operation against Dimasa militants also is going on in North Cachar Hill District to free the hill section of the Railway lines of Dimasa militants who attack the Train service in this sector.
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department informed the people that cooking gas will be issued to the consumers against the Gas Consumer Card in all the Common distribution points which have been arranged in consultation with the Village Councils. Only one cylinder will be issued against each consumer Card at a time and re-issue on the same card will be possible only after 15 days. In a press release issued recently the Department made clear that the Gas Agents have to give prior information to the Village Council or Consumer Union of the locality about the date, time and distribution points where the Gas will be distributed.

Border Trade Point at Zokhawthar in Champhai-Rih sector is reopening from today after its closure for about a month. In reply to our Correspondent, the SP of Champhai, Mr. C. Lalthanmawia said, the Gate will be open only for a day or two for clearing the back-log of goods which have been lying at Zokhawthar and Zokhawmawi for many days. Meanwhile, Champhai Transport Union and Zokhawthar Welfare Committee are yet to settle their dispute over transportation of goods from Zokhawthar to Champhai. The border trade point will be re-openednormally only when the dispute is settled amicably.

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) expressed grave concern over the alleged unfair selection result of entrance test for higher Technical Course conducted by the Selection Board. In a Press Release the MZP asked the Selection Board to explain to the people its stance for taking the final decision in this regard. Describing the selection result as unfair and hurting the sentiment of many students particularly who fell the victim of the wrong briefing in room number 27 of Hrangbana College, the MZP blamed the invigilators for showing rudeness to the candidates who depended on them to clarify certain doubts in the instructions.

The Government has prohibited learning of driving in the New Capital Complex at Khatla. In a public notification, the GAD secretary informed the people that the Government Complex which accommodated the Civil Secretariat, other Government offices and Quarters is not to be used for learning driving.

The Vice Chairman of NLUP Board Mr R. Selthuama said, revision of the working manual of NLUP is going on at present and this is given top priority for successful implementation of the programme. Talking to our correspondent, the Vice Chairman said, the fund recommended by the Working Group for the project in the State Annual Plan is 100 crores as against 120 crores demanded by the State Government. In reply to another question the NLUP Board Vice Chairman said, Legislation to support proper implementation of the Policy will be required and the work in this direction will be expedited when the Member Secretary of the Board, Mr. Zorammuana, the present Additional DC of Saiha, joins his new assignment in the near future.

The 29th Batch of Mizoram Home Guard comprising 172 volunteers completed their 6 months training course in Central Training Institute, Sesawng yesterday. Of these 25 are women home guard volunteers. Addressing the passing out parade, the Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla said, the people of the State trust Mizoram Home Guard Volunteers for remarkable service rendered to the people in the past. Conveying his good wishes to them, the Chief Minister asked them to continue creation of the good tract record of Mizoram Home Guards by displaying honesty, sincerity and self discipline. He also gave a way prizes to the volunteers who performed well in various competitions organized during their training. The Chief Minister was accompanied among others by Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and the DGP, Mr. Lalrokhuma Pachuau.

The Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla said, a record mandate received by the Congress in the last Assembly, Village Council and Parliamentary elections held in Mizoram is to be transformed into service to the people. Addressing the party workers in Congress Bhawan yesterday, Mr. Lal Thanhawla said that the massive mandate received by the Party is a response to the prayer of the people of the State who were yearning for good governance. He also highlighted the points he discussed with Central leaders during his recent visit to New Delhi including his contact with Union Ministers to expedite lifting of Rice from Gauhati for building monsoon stock. The meeting also felicitated the Congress candidates elected for Lok Sabha, Mr. CL Ruala and South Tuipui Assembly constituency, Mr. John Siamkunga.

The Law Minister, Mr. Lalsawta said, erradication of corruption will continue to be an uphill struggle as there is no wide spread social condemnation and punishment awarded to the culprits so far. Addressing the closing function of the 3 day training on eradication of corruption in ATI, the Minister also advocated deterrent punishment awarded to corrupt senior officials. The training was attended by Group ‘A’ Officers drawn from various Departments under the State Government.

Mr. TT Zothansanga, MLA elected from Champhai North constituency narrowly escaped fatal injury when his car was partially crushed by a landslide at Aizawl-Champhai road yesterday afternoon. Our Champhai Corr. reported that the private quarry near Keifang caved in damaging the rear part of the vehicle by which he was travelling. He also said that the road is not expected to be restored to vehicular traffic today as the clearance work is slow.

Chalfilh Group YMA has resolved to include campaign against drug abuse in the agenda of the YMA General Conference to be held in Darlawn this year. This decision was taken at the Group Conference held in Ratu during the last 2 days. The Group YMA also passed several other resolutions calling for protection of environment in Chalfilh peak and the forest around it, asking the Government to set up the 5th IR Battalion Hqrs. at Darlawn and non-alteration of the road alignment in the on going re-survey of National Highway No. 150. The Conference was attended among others by the Deputy Chief Whip, Mr. RL Pianmawia, Parliamentary Secy, Mr. Lalrinmawia Ralte and Central YMA Treasurer, Mr.Vanlalrema Rokhum.

Agriculture Minister Mr. H. Liansailova asked the farmers to make proper use of the land given to them by Nature with due care. Addressing a meeting organized by Mizoram Cultivator and Labour Union, MICLUN in Teachers’ Inn yesterday, the Minister also advised the farmers to work hard while adopting the advise and guidance of Technical Experts. In this meeting, MICLUN honoured the Agriculture Minister for his good tract record while in Government service. The meeting was presided over by MICLUN President, Mr. KC Lalliana.

Headmasters of Govt. Middle Schools have decided to wait for the action to be taken by the Government which is expected to review their pay. In the Headmasters Meet held in Electric Veng YMA hall yesterday, the headmasters discussed their grievances over their pay scale which is the same as that of trained graduate assistant teachers. Talking to our Corr. the President of Middle School Teachers Association, Mr. C. Chhuanvawra said that this decision is taken in view of the Education Minister’s assurance to review their pay when the financial position of the Government is improved. He also said that their proposed stepping down as assistant teacher is kept in abeyance till implementation of the 6th Pay Commission report. Addressing the 6th Annual Conference of Mizoram Middle School Teachers Association in Vanapa Hall, last Thursday, the Education Minister, Mr. Lalsawta informed the Headmasters that their grievances over their pay was known to the Government and this will be reviewed at the earliest convenient time. He also said that upgradation of over 80 Schools to lump-sum grant-in-aid and about 250 Schools in Deficit status has plunged the Department into financial crisis as about 2679 lakh rupees is to be spent additionally in a year.
